ok, on the right the crowd has the necronomicon, but on the left they have the american flag, some books, a bible and something on which I can read "The five thousand year..." what? Reich? Got a citation on this? It's really good...
the tree sign is one version of what Lovecraft called "the Elder Sign" - it either invokes or protects against the GOO (Great Old Ones) While most versions of the Sign make it a pentagram of some sort, there are things in the stories that make that shape possible.
http://www.mcnaughtonart.com/artwork/view_zoom/?artpiece_id=353# That's the website of the guy who painted the original, Jesus-licious version, John McNaughton. Includes the ability to zoom in on certain sections and get "explanations" for the people represented. Funny in its own context, but Cthulhu makes every painting better in some small, madness-inducing way.

Has anyone ever told you that you're a slightly sick puppy? And I bet you'll smile when you read that.
That was rather gackish, but extremely beautifully rendered...is gackish a word? It's more of a sound effect methinks.
Haha, for some reason this imagery makes me think of David Icke's view of the world.
Did anyone notice that necronomicon from "Army of Darkness" in the lower right corner.
I feel that this picture is quoting another one, I just can't think of what it is.
Gee, I see a lot of our founding fathers in this picture; that would explain why our government has gone so wrong.
Humorous synchronicity at it's finest!
I just saw for the first time and saved this picture yesterday. Linked below :

OK, now I'm totally lost. Who's behind the Jesus picture? What't the tree on his chest? Whose agenda is this.
@ Scribbler: I think the tree is supposed to be the "Tree of Life" or a refrence to "I am the vine you are the branches" or something like that.
We have the justified dead behind Jesus, the saved to his right and I do beleive the damned to his left?
The damned including unwed moms, liberal media, a high school science teacher? A judge in tears, some dude on the phone.. and the crypt keeper.
Oh yeah, and Jesus gave us the constitution. Sermon on Capital Hill maybe? Before he ascended from the capital dome?
I like Jason's retouched picture better. Much less offensive to my sensibilities.

Hey isnt that Admiral Akbar in the soldier suit? :)
O Diskordia,
I just looked at McNoughton's original. Truthfully I find the Cthulu version less disturbing.
It is horrifying to believe that there are still individuals living who are so chronically disconnected from reality.
